Volleyball defeats Piedmont Baptist for the second time this year
The Salem College volleyball team defeated neighbor Piedmont Baptist College for the second time this season in a non-conference game. Salem defeated Piedmont Baptist in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17). Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) led the Spirits with 17 kills in the match. Salem improves to 7-11 on the season.
Soccer earns tenth win of the season with 2-0 victory against Averett
The Salem College soccer team earned their 10th win of the season with a 2-0 victory at home against Averett University. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) scored her third game winning goal in a row in the 15th minute. Salem improves to 10-2 on the season.

"Natali is the first one from her family to attend a four-year college. She has finished second for Salem in every race this season and has made a huge impact on the team. She works extremely hard and is very passionate about running. She also has a great positive attitude and is a great student. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do in Great South Championships."
Soccer improves to 9-2 with road win at Warren Wilson
The Salem College soccer team defeated Warren Wilson College 7-0 in a non-conference soccer match today. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) scored two goals and had two assists for the Spirits in the win. Salem moves to 9-2 overall on the season with the victory.
Soccer wins on road in important GSAC match at Piedmont
The Salem College soccer team earned an important road conference win tonight at Piedmont College. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) scored on an assist by Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) in the 79th minute for the games only score. Salem moves into sole possession of second place in the Great South with the win. The Spirits move to 8-2 on the season overall and 3-1 in the GSAC.
Hubbard and Lisle selected as Great South Soccer Co-Players of the Week
First-year Stephanie Hubbard and sophomore Megan Lisle of Salem College are the Co-Players of the Week for women’s soccer. The central defender tandem helped the Spirit record their fifth shutout of the season,in a 5-0 win over GSAC rival Agnes Scott. Hubbard and Lisle helped the Spirits hold Agnes Scott to five shots in the match.
Soccer loses 1-0 to Maryville in hard-fought game
The Salem College soccer team lost to Maryville College 1-0 tonight at home. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) had a big night for Salem with 12 saves. Salem falls to 7-2 overall for the season and 2-1 in the Great South.
Volleyball drops home non-conference match against Methodist
The Salem College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match at home against Methodist University. The Spirits played a strong first two sets, but Methodist prevailed with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 15-25, 12-25) win. Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the Spirits with 10 kills. Salem falls to 6-10 on the season.
Volleyball improves to 3-1 in the Great South
The Salem College volleyball team split two Great South matches today hosted at Wesleyan College. Salem defeated Wesleyan in three games (25-14, 25-11, 25-16). The Spirits fell to Huntingdon College in four sets (15-25, 25-22, 20-25, 16-25). Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) led the Spirits in both matches in set assists. Salem improves to 3-1 in the conference, and 6-9 overall.
Soccer remains unbeaten at home with 5-0 victory against Agnes Scott
The Salem College soccer team defeated Agnes Scott 5-0 at home today in a Great South match. Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC) scored twice and had an assist in the match. Salem improves to 5-0 at home and have outscored their opponents 29-0 in those five matches. The Spirits are now 7-1 overall on the season, and 2-0 in the Great South.
Cross Country runs at Paul Short Invite in Pennsylvania
The Salem College cross country team competed today in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. Salem ran in the college women white 6K race and finished in 35th out of 36 of the top teams in area. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) was the top finisher for the Spirits in the race. Mendez finished in 189th place in a time of 28:17.
Salem College Soccer ranked number one in the country in goals per game!
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has just announced that the women's soccer team at Salem College is ranked number one in the country for Division III schools in scoring offense through the first four weeks of the season. Salem has scored 38 goals in seven matches for an average of 5.43 goals per game. Salem is now 6-1 on the season, and they are 1-0 in Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) play. The Spirits are ranked in the top fifty programs for all NCAA DIII team statistics through September 26th, and two soccer athletes are ranked in the top 100 in different individual categories.
Soccer wins 5-0 in first GSAC match of the season against Huntingdon
The Salem College soccer team kicked off their Great South Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 home victory against Huntingdon College. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored on a corner kick by Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) less than three minutes into the game. Salem improves to 6-1 on the season.
Volleyball starts Great South play with two wins against Agnes Scott and Spelman
The Salem College volleyball team won their first two Great South matches today at home. The Spirits defeated Agnes Scott this morning in an exciting five-set match (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11). Salem also defeated Spelman this afternoon in four games (25-19, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22). Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the Spirits with 25 total kills on the day. Salem improves to 2-0 in the GSAC, and to 5-8 on the season.
Cross Country finishes in 10th at William Wilson/Citadel Invitational
The Salem College cross country team finished in 10th place for NCAA Division II and Division III schools at the William Wilson/Citadel Invitational today. The 5k meet was run on a very hot course with temperatures in the mid-nineties. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) was the top finisher for Salem coming in 27th place in a time of 21:57.
Guilford defeats Salem volleyball at home
The Salem College volleyball team lost in three sets to non-conference opponent Guilford College tonight in the Salem Gym. Guilford defeated the Spirits 25-18, 25-17, 25-16. Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) and Cassie Durham (Dobson, NC) led the Spirits with six kills each. Salem falls to 3-8 with the loss.
Alexi Saganich wins Great South Soccer Player of the Week
Alexi Saganich of Salem College is the Player of the Week for women’s soccer. Saganich, a freshman forward, had four goals in two wins for the Spirits. She scored the game’s only goal in a win over Covenant and had a hat trick in only 25 minutes of play against Warren Wilson.
Soccer improves to 5-1 with home win against Peace College
The Salem College soccer team defeated Peace College 12-0 to remain undefeated at home for the season. Mackenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) and Courtney Hedgecock (Mount Carmel, CA) each scored two goals for the Spirits in the win. Ten different players scored goals in the game for the Spirits.
Soccer defeats Warren Wilson 6-0 to improve to 4-1
The Salem College soccer team used four goals in the first nineteen minutes to cruise to a 6-0 home win against Warren Wilson. Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC) scored a hat trick for the Spirits in the game. Salem improves to 4-1 on the season with the win.
Volleyball drops two close home matches
The Salem College volleyball team lost two very close home matches in a tri-match yesterday. Salem lost in five sets against Hollins University (25-20, 25-22, 11-25, 19-25, 10-15). The Spirits returned to drop a match against Virginia Intermont College in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25). Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) had a very strong day for the Spirits with 28 total kills. Salem falls to 3-7 on the season.
