Salem Athletic Department Celebrates End of Year at Awards Banquet
The Salem College Athletic Department celebrated the 2011-2012 athletic year last night in Bryant Hall. Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, presided over the festivities.
West Stanly High's Watkins commits to play softball at Salem
The Salem College softball program is pleased to announce that Allie Watkins has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Watkins played softball for Coach Wesley Kidd at West Stanly High School in Locust, NC.
Great Bridge High's Avsec commits to play soccer at Salem
The Salem College soccer program is excited to announce that Rachel Avsec has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Avsec played soccer for Coach Jennifer Hamilton and Coach Kalina Hobbs at Great Bridge High School in Virginia.
Soccer releases 2012 schedule
Coach Jay Callahan has announced the 2012 Salem College soccer schedule. The Spirits will play 18 regular season matches. 10 of those matches will be at the Salem Soccer field, 2 at a neutral site, and 6 on the road.
Arendell Parrott Academy's Ballard commits to play softball at Salem
The Salem College softball program is excited to announce that Rebekah Ballard has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Ballard played softball for Coach Matt Beaman at Arendell Parrott High School in Kinston, NC.
Classes of 2012 and 2014 Win First-Annual Salem College SAAC Powderpuff Game
The classes of 2012 and 2014 defeated the classes of 2013 and 2015, 24-6, in the first ever Salem College Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Powderpuff Game today at the Salem Soccer Field. The game was a fundraiser as part of the NCAA Division III initiative of raising money towards the Special Olympics.
Track & Field compete in last meet of season at Radford
The Salem College track & field team competed in their last meet of the season at the Radford Highlander Invitational this weekend against mainly NCAA Division 1 competition. Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC) broke the school record for the 5000 meter run in 20:59.63.
Softball season ends with strong Great South Tournament run
The Salem College softball team split 2 Great South Tournament games today. The Spirits defeated Agnes Scott 6-5 in a back and forth game. They lost to Maryville 3-0 in an elimination game that ended Salem's season. The Scots went on to defeat Piedmont to head to the championship against Huntingdon tomorrow. Salem finishes their season with a 13-22 overall record.
Softball splits in first day at Great South Tournament
The Salem College softball team split two games in their first ever Great South Athletic Conference Tournament today. The Spirits pulled off an upset in their first game, when they defeated Maryville 4-2. Salem dropped a 5-inning game to Piedmont, 10-1, in the second game. Their overall record is now 12-21 and they will take on Agnes Scott tomorrow in an elimination game at 11:00 am.
Softball earns 8 end of the year Great South honors
The Salem College softball team had 8 players earn end of the year honors by the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC). The Spirits had 3 players earn GSAC All-Conference honors and 3 earn GSAC All-Freshmen honors, while 2 more earned all-academic honors. The Spirits are set to play in the conference tournament starting tomorrow at Maryville.

The Salem College softball team is set to play in their first ever Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Tournament this Friday at Maryville. Salem will play as the sixth seed against Maryville, who will be the third seed.
Soccer has successful spring tournament at UNC-Wilmington
The Salem College soccer team had a successful spring tournament at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Seahawk 7 vs. 7 Classic. The Spirits finished in second in their group and lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament, which consisted of all NCAA Division I and Division II schools besides Salem.

The Salem College tennis team played in their first ever Great South laurenandamyTournament this week. As the sixth seed, the Spirits lost to the third seeded Scots of Maryville.
Settles throws no-hitter in softball doubleheader wins against Wesleyan
Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) pitched a no-hitter in game 1 of a doubleheader against Great South foe Wesleyan College. Settles pitched in both 5 inning victories for Salem. In the first game the Spirits won 8-0, and they took the second game 11-2. Salem ends the regular season with an 11-20 record, while Wesleyan finishes with a 4-21 record.

The Salem College tennis team is set to appear in their first-ever Great South Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Track & Field breaks more records at Furman Invitational
The Salem College track & field team set more school records this weekend at the Furman Invitational in South Carolina. The 4x400 meter relay team of Cristi Magracia (Lemon Grove, CA), Courtney Hedgecock (San Diego, CA), Michelle Lawler (Gibsonville, NC) and Karoline Summerville (Charlotte, NC) broke the Salem record with a time of 4:49.41.

The Salem College softball team earned a split with Covenant College today at home in a Great South conference doubleheader.
Tennis earns trip to Great South Tournament with two victories
The Salem College tennis team earned 2 huge victories out of 3 matches on a road trip to Georgia in Great South play. The Spirits earned victories over Spelman (5-4) and Wesleyan (8-1) to earn a spot in the Great South Tournament. The Spirits improved their overall record to 4-10, and their Great South record to 3-6 and earned a fifth seed.
Anita Howard Hired as New Basketball Head Coach
The Salem College Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, has announced that Anita Howard will become the second basketball coach in the NCAA era of the Salem Basketball Program. Howard will replace Jim Jackson, who retired at the end of the 2011-2012 season.
Tennis loses final home match against Covenant
The Salem College tennis team lost their final home match of the season to Covenant College 7-2 in Great South action. Lauren Wisen (Madison, OH) picked up a win at number 6 singles in her final home match of her career. Salem falls to 2-9 with the loss.
