Volleyball splits two away matches
The Salem College volleyball team split two games this week on the road. The Spirits defeated Piedmont Baptist College on Tuesday in four games (25-22, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15). The Spirits lost in Raleigh to the Peace Pacers in four games last night (17-25, 25-21, 25-8, 25-19). The Spirits are now 3-5 on the season in non-conference play.
Salem's Piernikowski Earns Cross Country Runner Of The Week
Cross Country finishes in fifth at Washington and Lee Invite
The Salem College cross country team finished in 5th place out of nine teams at the Washington and Lee Invitational today. The Spirits ran on a tough course in their first six kilometer (6K) race of the season. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished first for Salem and 24th overall in a time of 27:51.
Volleyball beats Sweet Briar in first home match
The Salem College volleyball team won their first home match easily against visiting Sweet Briar College. The Spirits won the non-conference match in three sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-19). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 12 kills, 2 service aces, and 3 digs. Salem improves to 2-4 overall with the victory.
Soccer loses hard-fought game at Meredith
The Salem College soccer team lost their first game of the season today at Meredith College, 2-0. Salem gave up a goal in each half, including an own goal in the second half. The Spirits finished in second in the Meredith Matchup, and Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT), Mackenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) and Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC) were all selected to the all-tournament team. Salem falls to 2-1 with the loss, and Meredith improves to 3-0.
Soccer remains undefeated with 11-0 win against Peace
The Salem College soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a victory against Peace College in the Meredith College Matchup. Salem used goals from eight different players to defeat the Pacers 11-0. The Spirits will return to action tomorrow against Meredith for the championship of the classic.
Piernikowski breaks her personal record for cross country at USC Upstate
Spartanburg, SC-The Salem College cross country team finished in 20th out of 22 teams at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational today. The Spirits defeated Great South conference foe Piedmont in the meet. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished in 94th overall in the 5k race with a personal record of 21:51.

Volleyball drops first match of the season at Greensboro College
The Salem College volleyball team dropped their first match of the season on the road at Greensboro College. Greensboro swept the Spirits in three sets (11-25, 13-25, 18-25). Salem falls to 0-1 on the season, and Greensboro improves to 1-0.
Soccer starts season with a 3-1 road win at Hollins
The Salem College soccer team began their season with a 3-1 road victory at Hollins University. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) got the season off with a bang as she scored just 57 seconds into the season. Salem improves to 1-0, while Hollins drops to 0-1.
Surry Community College's Durham commits to play volleyball at Salem
The Salem College volleyball program is excited to announce that Cassie Durham committed to attend Salem this season. Durham played middle hitter for Jan Marion-Kiser at Surry Community College and for Tim Shelton at Surry Central High School in North Carolina.
Scott Long hired as new Salem College Head Softball Coach
Salem College Athletic Director Dr. Kim Fierke is excited to announce the addition of Scott Long to the Spirit Athletic Department.
Pitt Community College's Perkins commits to play volleyball at Salem
The Salem College volleyball program is excited to announce that Karen Lynn Perkins committed to attend Salem next fall. Perkins played outside hitter for Amy Hawkins at Dubuque High School in Iowa and for William Way at Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC.
Two more key running recruits commit to Salem
Akaya McElveen (New Haven, CT; Warren F. Kaynor Technical/Wilbur Cross High School) has committed to running cross country and track & field at Salem, adding some needed depth to both teams.
