Coach Howard steps aside as basketball coach

April 30, 2014

Winston-Salem, NC-Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, has announced that Anita Howard has taken the head basketball coaching position at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. Salem will begin a national search for its head coaching vacancy immediately.

Salem competes in the Great South Athletic Conference as part of the NCAA Division III. The Spirits are coming off of a 21-5 season, where they won the Great South Regular Season and Tournament Title and went to the NCAA DIII National Tournament this past March.

Scott Blake, who has assisted the team the past two years, will continue to assist the program during the search. The Spirits will return twelve players for the 2014-15 basketball team, including four players with starting experience.

The basketball team looks to build on a team that went on a memorable sixteen game win streak in 2013-14. The team went undefeated against Great South opponents.

Salem is a four-year liberal arts school for women. The college is the 13th oldest in the United States, and the oldest women’s college by founding date (1772).
