Chemistry Mission & Goals

As a subset of the largest scientific society in the world, the Salem College Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) seeks to foster an interest in chemistry on campus and in the surrounding community. The organization also serves as a liaison between students and chemistry professionals through attendance of American Chemical Society meetings and chapter events. Membership is open to all students and is highly recommended for chemistry majors and minors. Some of these events include:

  • Welcome Dinner each fall, hosted by one of the chemistry faculty
  • National Chemistry Week - a lecture by an outside speaker and tie-dying shirts
  • Attendance at local, regional and national ACS meetings
  • Community Roots Day in Winston-Salem
  • SGA Halloween Carnival
  • Faculty Appreciation Week
