The online Master of Education in School Counseling (M.Ed. – SC) degree from Salem College prepares passionate educators who want to make a difference in the lives of students. As one of the top Master of Education degree programs in North Carolina, our online graduate program meets the expectations and needs of the most sophisticated and demanding educators.

Through a research-driven program, Salem’s online M.Ed. – SC degree program allows students to gain the knowledge and skills required to become licensed school counselors. Students will learn about advocacy, ethics, legal issues, assessment and evaluation, career counseling, personal development counseling, action research and program management.

The program is comprised of online classes, internship experiences and two weekend seminars on the beautiful Salem College campus. The M.Ed. – School Counseling can be completed in 36 months.

The demand for knowledgeable and highly-skilled school counselors is significant and on the rise. Counselors enjoy a rewarding career with a high level of responsibility, and are vital to any educational institution. Counselors provide support and guidance for students throughout the education process. They also collaborate with parents, teachers and other school personnel to promote positive outcomes in students’ academic, personal, and social development.

The School Counseling Curriculum Guide lists the program courses which must be taken and in the order or combination in which they are listed.  Contact Dr. John Gerstmyer, Director, Salem College M.Ed. in School Counseling Program, at john.gerstmyer@salem.edu or 336/721-2660 with any specific questions.
