Reading College Texts

If you have ever closed a textbook and been unable to recall what you just read, continue reading. Textbooks are one of the primary sources of information for college students. Therefore, it pays to know how to read texts in a manner that will save you time and keep you from feeling frustrated. This session focuses on strategies that can help you improve your ability to identify, comprehend, and recall main ideas and relevant supporting detail from texts without lots of re-reading.
2/13, 3/11 & 4/14
Taking notes is an essential part of the college experience. However, knowing how to take notes that serve you well is even more essential. If you need help identifying the most important information to record in your notes, learning what to do with your notes after class, and discovering the ways in which you can use your notes as a self-study tool, make plans to attend.
2/17, 3/13 & 4/15
Repetition can be a wonderful memory aid. However, there are many other ways in which you can go about remembering important information. If you are interested in learning how to boost your memory through use of readily available aids such as color, locations, drawings, rhymes, and sentences, consider attending this workshop.
Preparing for College Exams

This workshop is for students who want to trade in cramming and poor test performance for confidence and better outcomes. Make plans to attend this session if you want to walk into tests with the ability to recall and apply the information that you have learned.
Managing Test Anxiety
Does the thought of taking a test leave you with sweaty palms, headaches, nausea, or dizziness? Have you ever thought that you really knew information, sat down to take a test, and discovered that things were not as clear as you thought? If you have had any of these experiences, you may want to come to this workshop and learn what you can do to approach tests with greater confidence and less anxiety.
Goal-Setting and Motivation

Written goals can serve as a wonderful visual reminder of what it is that you are working to achieve. If you want to learn more about the relationship between the way goals are set and the steps that support their achievement, this workshop is for you. The session will focus on the steps involved in the goal-setting process and evaluating your progress toward achieving those goals. Attention will also be devoted to the steps necessary to identify potential obstacles, and creating plans to overcome those obstacles.

This workshop is for students who want to bring goal-setting and action planning together in a way that can make finals a time of minimal stress and positive outcomes. This session will teach you how to create a plan that puts success with final exams, papers, and projects within your reach.
