The Salem College Library System

The DALE H. GRAMLEY LIBRARY facility houses over 125,000 volumes and offers access to over 4,500 full- text periodicals. It provides an attractive and spacious Reading Room, a Browsing Collection balcony, a public meeting room, the Grace L. Siewers Archives room, and a Research Center offering professional assistance in identifying and locating both print and online information resources. The Clarence E. Clewell Rare Books Room houses special collections of Johnson and Boswell first editions, Southern women writers, Hogarth Press volumes, and primary materials relating to the American slavery debate. The Teaching Resources Center provides books, hardware, software, and other materials needed by students in the Teacher Education Program to prepare lesson plans and presentations. Secondary school resources are amply supplemented by the availability of the 8,000 volume Salem Academy Library.

The LORRAINE F. RUDOLPH FINE ARTS CENTER LIBRARY houses over 7,900 scores, 9,200 sound and video recordings, and a reference collection for the art department and the Salem School of Music. It provides computerized workstations with access to the union online catalog and to the World Wide Web, as well as listening stations and a TV/VCR. A Reserve collection serving the departments housed in the Fine Arts Center and study areas are also available. Phone (336) 721-2738.
