About Winston-Salem
Salem College, the Home Moravian Church, and Old Salem share Salem Square, the sounds of Salem bells, and a rich heritage. Salem students cherish the atmosphere of historic Old Salem. The campus is located on Salem Square in the internationally recognized restoration of the old village and includes five buildings from the original Moravian town.
The city of Winston-Salem is one of the most culturally active in the nation, and Salem students enjoy -- and often participate in -- many of the special offerings in town. The city's performing arts groups include: the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Wachovia Little Symphony, the Piedmont Opera Theatre, the Little Theatre, the North Carolina Black Repertory Company, and the Piedmont Chamber Singers.
Winston-Salem is home to the Roger L. Stevens Center, a nationally recognized facility for the performing arts; Reynolda House, a museum of American paintings; the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts; and the North Carolina School of the Arts. The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts borders the Salem campus in Old Salem.
Winston-Salem is also an ideal climate for business, featuring proximity to major U.S. cities, technology, and employment opportunities. A short walk from the Salem campus will find you downtown or on the "greenway" to Salem Lake, a popular spot for boating, biking, and jogging. Within a few hours of campus are mountains for skiing, camping, or hiking; rivers for white-water rafting; and the beautiful ports and beaches of North and South Carolina.
