Senior Bigsby Receives Pfohl Student Award
Julie Bigsby C'10 received the 2009-2010 Pfohl Student Award during the annual Honors Convocation, held May 13.
Bigsby has been a role model as a leader and active member of the Salem campus community. During her four years at Salem, she excelled in academics, athletics, leadership and service. She was on the dean’s list nearly every semester, and she was invited to join six academic honor societies including Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board.
During her four years at Salem, Bigsby served as a Student Ambassador, Orientation Leader, member of Fremdendienerin and Phonathon volunteer. She was the primary organizer of a “Better World Books Drive” and volunteered for CHICS and community projects for feeding the hungry.
Bigsby was instrumental in the production of the student yearbook "Sights & Insights," working her way “up the ladder” of editorial board positions to ultimately assume the position of Editor-in-Chief by her junior year. She was also known for her participation on Salem’s recent outstanding cross-country teams, receiving honors in her first year by being named “Second Team All State” and again her senior year when the team was the Conference Champion Runner Up.
