Lucero-Hammer Publishes Second Book
Graciela Lucero-Hammer, chair of the Modern Languages department and associate professor of Spanish at Salem College, has published a second book, Naked Souls/Desnudos del Alma.
Press 53 of Winston-Salem has just released a bilingual anthology of award-winning stories by the Argentine writer Marisa Estelrich, translated into English by Lucero-Hammer. These stories reveal the complex and often contradictory character of the Argentine people. Through descriptions of seemingly ordinary life routines, Estelrich masterly leads the reader into unexpected realms of existential angst, self-doubt, ennui, loneliness, suffocation and madness.
About the translation, Amanda Powell, University of Oregon, said in her review of the work: "Graciela Lucero-Hammer's deft and lucid translations show the plain-spoken at play with the phantasmagoric. We are fortunate to have these two fine writers offer us Naked Souls / Desnudos del Alma."
