Growth of PE Department Leads to Staff Promotions
The growth this past year in Salem's physical education department as well as new programs (exercise science major, coaching minor) means that several members of the department have recently accepted additional duties. The announcement was made by Dr. Kim Fierke, director.
Jay Callahan, full-time soccer coach and sports information director, will be assuming more responsibility as the director of athletic recruiting. The College continues to make increasing enrollment the top priority and Callahan will be working closely with the admissions department and with each athletic program to help increase the number of students to Salem College.
Amanda Hilliard-Ziemba, head volleyball coach, has accepted an offer to help cover game management duties. She and Callahan will work closely together to continue to provide the quality contest experience for which we we are known. Hilliard-Ziemba will also increase her teaching responsibilities for Salem's growing physical education department.
Shawn Marek, head cross-country coach, has accepted an offer to oversee the fitness center. Again, as Salem's new majors and minor begin to impact the campus this is another area that will see increased growth.
