Removing the original tiles to repair the roof structure is one of the first tasks of the restoration.

The Single Sisters House restoration is officially underway! Salem attained a building permit in November, and the construction team is meeting weekly to evaluate progress. Will Knott, the construction manager from Frank L. Blum Construction Company, and his team meet with Gwynne Taylor, Anna Gallimore, Paige French, Jane Carmichael of Salem, along with subcontractors, architects, and engineers to monitor the project.
Scaffolding is raised around the east and north exterior walls, and the brick pavers in front of the house have been removed to facilitate repairs to the foundation which address rising water issues. Temporary fencing surrounds the house, and a temporary plank walkway across the street accommodates pedestrians.
The essential restoration of the roof and the installation of mechanical systems (plumbing, electrical, heating/AC) are the primary construction efforts, which are required to make the building functional and to keep moisture and mold under control.
The project is on schedule for completion in April 2007!
